ON READING A CATALOGUE
If I’d brought a red flower that would have been a good idea
If I’d brought a purple flower that would have been a good idea
Someone said something about polka dots in a combination of green and yellow-
orange
That too would be a good idea
Someone said something about a white horse, then a red horse then a black horse
No one said anything about that
Someone painted themselves into a corner from which they could never escape
Someone sent them food and drink on a little trolley
On the first day the food and drink were very good

CATCHING THE EARLY BIRD: A STORY FROM THE CATALOGUE

A short short story about a worm that strangles the early bird. The bird doesn’t know
what hit it. Other birds see the bird and fly on. ‘That bird’, they say, ‘is fit only for the
birds’. They don’t know what they are saying. They should say ‘That bird is fit only
for the worms’ but they’re caught up in the usual chitchat, all about birds. That’s why
they talk about birds and not worms, certainly not the ones
